As you know, I brought this up quite some time ago when I was reading a trilogy by a different author, who specifically asked that I not use any excerpts from her "writing..." (books) For myself, my blogging is more a hobby/love of books at this point in my life, so how I create my blog post is totally at my prerogative, as it should be. Many routinely exploring earlier reviews at Book Readers Heaven, have discovered that my book posts are much more elaborate than the average past review, including such things as book playlists... This is fun for me and readers apparently enjoy it since they keep coming back...
But that's not why I decided to use this latest trilogy to discuss the copyright issue. I picked it because I got really excited about this book in particular. I loved everything about it and was looking forward to talking and sharing short excerpts that, to me, revealed the explosion of details for which some writers should receive some type of commendation...
That normally requires that you repeat what was said by a given writer. Many of you will realize that quotes have been published for thousands of years referring back to a specific phrase or sentence that caught the eye of readers in an important, meaningful way... I and millions of others have often quoted the words of Jesus or other religious or philosophical leaders such as Socrates, who had become well known for what they taught in their times of accomplishment...
As recently as this morning, I made comments on how AI is being used now by anybody and everybody who decides they want to speak and get feedback, in my opinion, by using somebody else's words...
This generic video was posted under "Daily Brief Prime." I happened to recognize this speaker from watching him many years as a paid analyst on a popular news channel. This man was in no way identified as the speaker!!! In fact, we have no idea whether these are words he himself have at least spoken. But I can guarantee that he never would have present as this speaker is speaking--that is, that he would speak at a speed which implies he is reading a teleprompter, which he never does... And, we have no way to verify that these words were actually stated by this very well known professional and experienced government expert. This was my response to reading this post on YouTube. I have had no response...
You say this is independent, but don't say who is behind this... you say it is not connected, yet you use constantly a picture of a legal analyst from MSNOW...in particular... yet, we know this is not an individual who speaks as this AI generation happens... I find NO relevance to this type of overview...especially when you use a well-known name to potentially suck people in yet unless we follow we have no idea whether it is TRUTH... WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS ACTIVITY; IT IS DUPLICATIVE IF IT IS TRUTH... IT IS ILLEGAL IF NOT TRUE...WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND ATTEMPT TO FORCE AI ON US!!!
I commented on another such video created using popular Rachel Maddow... I also recognized her style of speaking and knew that she did not create the video herself...

On the other hand, we do know that often professional people or entertainers will want to write a book but can't write so they hire a ghostwriter. That's legit. And, it was only as all the trouble started after 2015 that the true writer of The Art of the Deal started talking about the fact that he was the real expert of deal making... I remember one writer/ghostwriter setup that had submitted a book for publishing by Branden Books. I was reviewing for the publisher at that time. The "star" of the book had been so possessive that she really didn't allow ghostwriting to occur. The book was terrible. I told the publisher that I refused to review the book as is. He actually agreed with me that it was not a good book...but, then, he had been paid for it as opposed to the publisher having agreed to front the costs... That is also legal as long as the contract is clearly written... As far as reviews go, though, the professional reviewer will express their truth and does not work as an employee for the publisher.
But, let's go back to writers who want to be authors. Sadly, not every individual who wants to write, also loves to read...these have become excellent writers due to their "research by reading hundreds of other books and studying formats, procedures, formats, etc. Recently I got an email from a writer who knew I wasn't reviewing. But he simply said, "You may like my book..." Actually, when I get such a contact, I go out, look at the book and if the price is not bad for the type of book, I'll buy it... But, now, I still haven't figured out how to say to him that the book really should never have been published because of the problems with it. I'll do it, and that writer will be guided as to the issues I discovered...but not as a formal review, given the circumstances of the contact.
But, that's not the crux of the issue for the majority of books being published, is it? I wanted to give some background so that you can realize exactly what has been done by a group of professional "geeks" who think they can use computers to write...
I will quickly stipulate that this can be helpful within a business environment where speed and research plus editing is a time factor. But that is an entirely different type of tool to be developed. The fact is that most writers, including myself who doesn't consider myself as an author, still wants to ensure that what we write is, in fact, our words and ONLY our words... Be it not finding all the typos, or making an editorial grammar mistake and not catching, or...whatever. I will and should be held to account... That's expected by any professional author that I've become acquainted with...
Now, this is apparently what is being done by AI experts who want to sell their software. They are advertising every place they can slide it in, that I/You can "choose" to use AI to rewrite what you want to say... or actually have AI write the research and a draft or maybe even the whole paper if you wish... PLEASE do not attempt to tell me or any professional writer that if you use AI for any part of a book that you are an "author..." What do I mean by that?
Well, when I've used many small excerpts for a book review, I'm showcasing either the lovely words that have been used...or how a paragraph has been developed to both move the story forward without giving the plot away... or better yet, combining genres in such a way that the reader moves much more deeper into the book itself because we have actually been invited into and accepted the author's hope that each reader will enter the exact book that they wanted to write for us!
Taking it a step further, this particular author began the book as a murder mystery which was, initially, fairly simple and revealing of the plot. But little by little the author began to twist this way or that way, added this person or an actual experience that would be "felt" by thousands or millions of potential readers. I'll be writing about this book soon, but for illustrative purposes, I'll just say that the theme of the book was what happens during a natural disaster. We all know how bad it is, but, only when you actually "experience" it can you sink deeply into the emotional trauma that happens when somebody is displaced and happens to lose their entire life's personal effects as it existed the previous day... Many such personal stories are developed and become rated high because the reader can find commonality of our emotional responses. Computers don't have feelings...
Now, I don't know the details to actually explain the "how..." What I do know from authors is that what is happening is that the writing of an author can be "captured" and fed into an AI file called say, GBMemoir. Note that I decided to open my writing since I didn't want to deal with publishing, etc., at this point in my life... I wanted to write for pleasure and hopefully some enjoyment for others, and for my family, perhaps as a legacy... But, MOST writers need to sell their work as an author in order to continue in their chosen career...
So, think about it... If you have the ability to capture all of my hashtags referenced by hashtag, you could ultimately learn a lot about me...
But, more importantly, you can learn HOW I write. And if you collect enough of that writing, you can ensure that the computer will be able to create a close "copycat" document...
What we are talking about, everybody, is the ability for somebody to steal your authorship... at no cost... and claim that new document as their own. The point is that knowing that a computer can not create a complex multi-genre mystery and psychological suspense novel like Sala wrote, without a human brain? In my mind, I say it is impossible... It may happen someday, say on another planet station with a Starship captain Called Captain Kirk who is a totally different type of person than the original Captain Kirk by the Original Author!
But if you want to just make money for the purpose of making money and don't care if you use criminal actions by stealing to create a stolen book using the writing expertise of another writer, well, we all KNOW that there are many criminals out there NOW doing any type of criminality that they can think of... NOW AI has given criminals another tool by which it can be accomplished...
So, I am speaking out against, not AI itself, but the inexperienced early implementation without extensive testing and without anybody at the top ensuring that some type of government oversight is included!
What does that mean for the average citizen like me? Well, it means that my picture, together with a selection of my writing could be created, using my picture, and reviews written under my name... At my time in life, I have no money involved in this process other than my own personal time, so I see that AI is of little concern to me... And if anybody wants to try to place a review in my blog, hey, just send it to me, and I'll jazz it up a little and use YOUR OWN name on that review...
But that is not the purpose of book reviews, traditionally. Reviews are part of the marketing tools used by authors and publishers. If they must restrict a traditional methodology used; i.e., excerpts, then it undoubtedly will make it harder to compete for sales... To illustrate what this major change is for me, the last review I wrote, without excerpts to guide the overall creation of the review, my time doubted for the creation/writing of that review. My productivity is increased because I must create my own words to replicate the plot, info on characters, etc., without any reference to the actual work of the author.
What this essentially has done is to downgrade the profitability of having reviews written because of the new copyright restrictions of use. Frankly I'm not sure this is not a purposeful sales tactic. The publishing field has significantly changed in the last decade; we can expect more changes as computerization continues to be developed... But just as freedom of the press is being criticized and defamed, so too are writers who are brave enough to write their truth, based upon their reality and possible revealing life experiences, such as the book written by one of the Epstein girls who was abused through this human trafficking activity!
Note: This issue is also relevant for other creatives, including music, art and anything that is "created by an individual..." It can and will be copied if it shows to be a profitable income to criminals... And we all know that criminals are at work daily in all areas of our lives... Sad to Say! Did you not already know that? Well, did you know that real guns are being created on computers and are NOT controlled in any way by anybody?!
What we can't do is plan for the acceptance of the criminal element of our underbelly and corporate bottom-line of financial gain over quality as seems to be the total driving process these days. And we go back to my last post... The vicious cycle of that small minority who chooses to place making money as their only goal in making decisions... At the present time, given the total elimination and disregard of computerization within the government environment, I see nothing ahead but "deals being made by the concerned parties" in big corporations and government to profit from the brain power of the creatives that have gifts that cannot be created, only manipulated by software to steal each individual's creative skill(s) that God gifted for us to work with...
I'm sure I'll be talking about this on an ongoing basis... Hopefully you realize the issue, given the tight copyright statement now being used, and will share this article and the ramification for the future for all authors...

Please feel free to ask questions regarding any of this post. I know you may not even have a handle on what AI stands for and its capability. So I'll close with just one example you may have noticed. The creation of a clothes model has been accomplished and has been used for several years within television advertising ads--thus denying work for a paid human model... My info included the fact that she was a Black African young woman who I happened to have noticed because she was so very beautiful... I bring this up because a company recently supposedly fired thousands of employees because of AI upgrade/changes. Personally I have found, based upon my own expertise in the potential use of computers that anything offered as AI has been far inferior to what I could have and would have accomplished myself. But being a Trekkie, I do know the future of what can be accomplished in medicine, for instance. So I am not against future technological advancement.
I am very opposed to implementation of new systems without user input and testing. I am very opposed to corporations implementing systems and not helping clients actually know how and what to use in that new system. And my next post will be hot off the press as I share the changeover recently made by Direct Television...and its trigger effect on my PTSD due to lack of coordination of people and system implementation/communication...
