Actions Speak Louder than Words... Are Electronics Really Improving? Just My Personal Experiences...

Dell Desktop 2005TheT (I am trying to type 4 lines below and twice it came here!

--maybe too fast for today's computer?
(here is where I've been trying to type to show that this phrase was jumped and should have following 70 wpm...)

I was reasonably happy with my desktop that I'd had for 7

Only problem was that it was slow, but still had the full powerthat I had come to expect from a desktop. I have been typing all of my professional life and moved from typewriters through mainframe use and on into personal computers--that makes my experience over 40 years! I type an average of 70 wpm ((this word, years) was the one that moved up aThere s the first line--I tried to place this right after years on the previous line and twice it jumped here, plus once into the middle of word through on the previous line!

There is no way to know where your word goes, so the typist has to stop and searched...Note that the There of this sentence was thrown into the 3rd line from bottom of previous paragraph...

I bought the laptop for reading rather than for
using it as a computer; i.e., I did not plan on handling email, letters,
and financial matters on my desktop. I was able to take
PDF books and have no problem reading them on the
laptop while sitting, having a cup of tea...LOL
Note that I am using the routine format of
my blog to allow you to see the strange happenings
that I must deal with, as I have converted to later models!

Please be aware that I'm now typing on a Toshiba laptop...I had earlier tried an Acer desk top that is what they call it... I returned it almost immediately since it had less power than the laptop and also did the same strange things...

What do I mean by strange things? Well,

on the left...I left it like it was
"created" by the computer to

made the jumps...I did NOT!

I just previewed this...as I am typing the acer pic is on the left and the laptop on the right. When I had the full power of the Dell desktop, albeit 7 years old--by the way, the reason I know I had it for 7 years is because Windows sent me a computer message and told me they weren't supporting their product anymore...I have had excellent help with Blogger so I know that it is the change in the computers which has caused my inability to format as in the past...What you'll see if what the computer has done to change my layout.

Also during typing this last paragraph, some picture appear from the bottom of the screen. The movement toward being smaller in size has resulted in what you might call "clicks" of multiple keys...that is, you don't know that something has been touched because you've been typing with no errors, or correcting errors you see on the screen...but have no idea how these appearance occur.

This is NOT where I dragged the picture to...

One thing I've noticed is that the mouse and the typing do not synchronize as on the earlier computers--I was previously a manger of information systems and had a network of personal computers. This type of thing never happened with the earlier desktops. Now, you may be typing and need to made some adjustment. FIRST, you have to click to find where your cursor is and then move it back to where you wanted to use it, for example to backspace...

And right now I am returning to start over, the computer closed down itself to update...no longer are messages sent ahead to let you decide whether you want to start!

It has been said that the mouse is on the way out...but will touch screens be any better? I don't know...but I do have the experience of touch on my Kindle... which is another review...

Inside/Outside by Jenny Hayworth Can Only Be Understood Through Reading Her Story... Added to My Top Ten for 2014...

I dealt with it by withdrawing even more
into the fantasy world I had developed in my head.

1923 - The day my mother died, I went to bed with a knife, and he never bothered me again... Learned from her relative...

Born 1965
8 years old - I remember my Pop as a quiet man, withdrawn even, and the smell of the smoke from his pipe clung to him like a second skin. He would sit with the radio held up against his ear listening to the horse and dog races for hours.
When I think of my Pop, I automatically think of the bathroom in his house in Perth...My brother and I would be at the house to visit our grandparents, but I don't know where my Nana or mother would be...My brother and I would be taken into that bathroom, and that was where the main abuse occurred. Sometimes we would be put in a few inches of water, and I clearly remember sitting in the water with it getting cold and getting goose bumps whilst my brother was being sexually abused. Sometimes I would get out of the bath and inch past my Pop and brother
At other times when we were taken into the bathroom, my Pop would get the Vaseline...and he would get me to touch him, and then he would touch me...I would disappear into my head...

One Woman's Recovery from

Abuse and a Religious Cult

It is never an easy thing to write a book such as this--although it is the best self-help that I think I have ever read and I used to read a lot of them in my early years... I've added it to my adult blog not because of shame to the writer, but rather to ensure that it is not readily available to young children... Yes, this type of book could help someone who has been affected by abuse, but that should be by desire, choice, and a search for this type of book, not through randomly looking online for book reviews...

Self-Help books have always been of value to me. I think they allow a catharsis for those who write them...but more importantly a desire to share and help others who may be going through similar or totally different situations, but are in need of encouragement. Frankly, Jenny's story is almost unbelievable and yet when you read the book, you can tell it is a true story. Jenny has done an excellent job of outlining her story in a topical fashion so that you can go to a certain issue and reread if you need to. I know that this book will become part of my personal library--not something I do with most of the books I read for reviews...just because I'd never have the room to keep all books that I've truly enjoyed! LOL

When I read Jenny's story, I wondered how she made it through everything. The abuse of her and her brother by their grandfather is a sad beginning to a child's life and few ever forget it...But, I have to admit that, for me, what she experienced as an adult from her church and family was even more horrible. I have no idea how she did walk in her shoes through to her present life endeavors!

Just because the Bible is quoted at you, it does
not mean the practice is right. Your child doesn't
have a bad heart if he or she doesn't respond to
a smack to make him or her sit quietly. Smacking
might work in the short term for many children,
but for others who won't conform, beatings can
go on for hours or continually, and the
emotional damage is lasting...

Jenny later was caught by a young boy on the tennis court and was forces to participate in some things, but her mother calling her allowed her to get away... In turn, she made one attempt to molest another girl, but immediately regretted it...

When she was a little older, 11, she was approached by a neighbor in his 60s. But she needed love and was willing to participate and they became close intimately. Later in life, she had to acknowledge this and became distraught when he denied everything...
Jenny had been a member of her church for a long time; her husband was slowly moving up in its hierarchy... This church demanded that most of the contact with the work outside world be limited, so that, essentially, you have no friends outside of the church community.

As she married and had children, family problems took over and her depression deepened, especially when her son was diagnosed with dyspraxia

It was at this time that she began to have doubts about how things were handled in church...

When his sexual abuse had been
disclosed, it had been a different
reaction. Nobody had talked about
it openly, like they did when the
car hit him. After the car hit him,
Benjamin was able to tell his story
over and over, and in the telling he
found healing, comfort, support
and understanding.
When he had been abused, there
had been only silence. And in
silence and avoidance came an
innate sense that he had done
something shameful, too bad to
talk about...

Then the worst happened. They had moved to New Zealand for an "Auxiliary Pioneer" program. It included getting younger teens involved. Her name was Brittany and it wasn't long before Benjamin, at five years old, was sharing that "Someone is touching me." Then Amy, at 3, screamed when she had her night nappy put on. She used the word "sore."

Later, they learned that Brittany had threatened Ben that she would cut off his penis with a knife... The Church discouraged going to the police...but she later went on her own, had it confirmed, and put the children into counseling! That was the beginning when she was on the spot as she began to disobey rules by the WatchTower who made the rules for

every situation... even though none are professionals in needed fields...

The ending came by a trick. Jenny was called by one of the elders and spent time with her on the phone, asking questions. Before long, she realized that he had taken something out of context and was confirming that Jenny had said "she was no longer a witness." Her parents--her husband--everybody in the church from then one shunned her.

Jenny took the children and left...completely on her own...in a world outside, where she had never been... Her story shows her as a very gutsy woman--a woman to listen to... The only thing I would add personally is that we know that this is not the only church in which bad things occur... My abusers were members of the same church where I was raised...as are many others who stay in the church where their parents go. I've just ordered a resource book from Jenny's web site... Only you know if this self-help discusses things that are troubling you from the past or the present... Jenny has opened her entire life in order to help others...Read and Listen...She might have something you need to hear...I know I was inspired by this book. Thank you Jenny for placing everything out in the open--many will find help from this book, I believe!

Jenny Hayworth (1965-) was born in England, emigrating in 1968 with her parents to Australia when she was only 2 years old, and then moving to New Zealand at the age of 9 years. She returned to Australia in 1997 and has lived there ever since.

Her first book, a memoir, Inside/Outside was published in January 2014 by Createspace. She lives with her husband, who is also a writer, in a blended family with 3 of their teenage sons still living at home and 3 adult children living away from home, now making their own way in the world. She also shares her space with 2 dogs, 2 cats and 4 chooks, and proudly shows off her permaculture food forest and perennial garden she has created in her backyard.

Jenny completed her Bachelor of Science, majoring in Psychology in 2010, and currently works with prisoners. She was in the cult-like religion known as Jehovah's Witnesses for over 30 years, after her parent's joined when she was only 5 years old. After she left, she was announced as "dissassociated" and was treated as if dead by her mother and all her friends who remained in the faith. She is well equipped to offer support and share her story with others who have experienced shunning and estrangement from their families due to religious fundamentalism. She is an advocate for those who have experienced child abuse and are trying to recover as adults, and also has a passionate interest in advocating and supporting refugees.

Family Saga Moves from Pre-Civil War to Present Time by Bobby Dennis Jr. Great Street Lit Based Somewhat Upon Facts...

In the spring of that year a young slave girl, 15 years old, named Amanda ran away from a big plantation near Charlotte North Carolina. The plantation was the Kane plantation. They didn't grow cotton, born, or wheat. What they grew were slaves...

Since importing slaves had been outlawed, the country sought to grow its own. On the Kane plantation, they grew only enough food stuffs to feed the slaves and the Kanes. A work force was necessary, so they had to have an overseer, his name was Elmer Spivey... Elmer had also fathered at least 15 more children from slave women, and made sure they were quickly sold. There was one slave woman who wouldn't have him. A big, jet black slave, named Bessie... She was a pure blood Zulu from the coast of Africa... Bessie was the favorite of the plantation owner, one Thaddeus Matthew Kane...Thad Kane was Amanda's father. Bessie was her mother, the only slave woman Thad had ever had.

A pure blood Mandingo who came to America...by the name of Josh, fell in love with her and she with him. Her pregnancy was the result of their affections...Elmer pulled his pistol and shot Josh dead...Amanda waited in the shadows with an axe. As he passed her she stepped out and sung the axe, and cleaved his head in two...She took off running; six months pregnant...

BloodLine of A Kane

If this is not a genealogical study of one family, I wouldn't know what was--Even if most of the names are fictional! The author has clearly demonstrated the emphasis of "putting family first" and how it was drilled into them right from the beginning--drilled in by love as well as guidance to each child.

The Kane family began when a pregnant teenager ran away from the slave plantation where her father was the master and her mother was a Zulu from Africa who was kept only for the master, as he wished... When Amanda had been born, the same message went out to everyone, but that didn't stop Amanda falling in love and then her lover being shot! She ran, not knowing where she will go!

Amanda was on the run for three months when she stumbled into a Cherokee Indian Camp. The women of the camp helped her but the tribe also had welcomed a shaman priest who also had "run away." When Tan Lao Tzu saw her, he claimed her immediately as a second wife, knowing that he would and did have to fight other braves who challenged him...

I think this was my favorite part of the book, as Tan Lae Tzu as well as his present wife and child took in Amanda and they became what would become the beginning of the Kane bloodline. Mandy and Yellow Bird became as sisters and cared together for the family. But they also learned about what they would do to ensure they could protect the family, including learning how to use all the weapons available to them as well as Kung Fu.

By the time Raven was 15 years old, he was
the biggest man in the camp and he would grow
bigger. He stood 6'3"and weighed 220 chiseled

pounds. He wore his hair in two thick braids

that hung down his back. The only warriors

father and brothers.

I couldn't help picking out my vision of the baby Raven hs he grew to head of the Kane family...I image he would have been a serious boy having learned so much--including how to read and write English, Indian and Chinese... He also learned much about being a shaman...

"Raven and Little Bird. In time they will be the

greatest warriors this tribe has ever had.

Each family group is attached to a clan. By virtue

of Sparrow being my wife, we're a branch of the

Bear clan. So we represent the head of the clan,

the others will follow our lead...

The next morning Lao Tzu went to the Tepee where Amanda was the night before. He brought her a buckskin dress and moccasins for her feet, and a bowl of food. He ducked thru the entrance as she lay there asleep with the baby in her arms. The baby was wide awake and quiet, his eyes followed Lao as he came across the room. Lao had never seen such awareness in one so young, or the eye control. He knew this would be a great one with the proper training and he planned to be the one to train him...

They headed to the trading post which was a weeks ride from the camp...
As the six Braves rode up to the trading post they noticed a group of horses with blue and yellow saddle
blankets, with crossed sabers and the legend U.S. on the corner...
They dismounted and each grabbed a bundle of pelts and entered the trading post...
As Raven and his crew came to the counter and laid down their pelts, Sam Purdy offered them a drink.
Ray and his band never drank the white man's fire water. They had seen its results so they turned it down.
Sam Purdy turned up his lips, sneered then asked. "You too good to drink with us nigger?"

At the time they began to have sufficient skins to trade, they went to the closest trading post. It only led to trouble...

But it was those that had been at the post, when they met the Kane clan, who faced their deaths... I really believe that it was how the white men treated them that brought about the inclusion of violence in their lives. I wish I could say that it would not have happened any place else, but history already proves what happened. Still, after the deaths were hidden away, They took over the trading post, planning to ensure that the Indians were no longer cheated! But soon the town had grown and one man from the white side of town learned that a railroad would be stopping there and started plans to take over all the land that would be needed...

And so the Kate clan grew... As children married outside of the clan, Raven would talk to the family about his family and offer to bring them in as part of their protection for all family... But outside influences started to bring in drinking, drugs and more...

Ogilvey was turned into a killing field and the whites were running. Chaos reigned, as the whites approached the ranch of the Bird Clan.

Deaths of family members began... Revenge was sure to follow...

The Saga continues through decade after decade as family fought to stay together and to receive the honesty, integrity and protection that the Clan offered to others. The book continues along historical activities that occurred to help readers keep track of the time line.

Content is violence and graphic intimate sex within marriage is included. There were maybe a few instances outside of marriage but most connection resulted in marriage. Both of these areas, I felt, were handled as well as can be expected. There were few times when actions were initiated by Clan members, except in response to somebody's move against them. But when that happened, the whole Clan took over!

The only problem I had with the story had nothing to do with the story... There were lots of editorial issues...so beware... if that bothers you enough not to want to read the book... Myself, when I read up front--"like to thank the Florida D.O.C and their policy of not letting prisoners in disciplinary confinement have library books and the unnamed correctional officer that took the one I smuggled in; couldn't have done it without you! A word to those who hated and didn't! believe. I told you..." I don't know about you, but those in prison are meant to be helped, I thought...If they cannot read books, it seems that would lead to more trouble than if they could keep their minds occupied!

So...I'm going to recognize just what Bobby Dennis Jr. had to go through to get his book published! and Highly recommend it as an in-depth look of how a slave runaway became the matriarch of the Kane Clan who stayed together for almost 100 years! Great story!

Congratulations and I hope you keep writing and maybe make enough money that, next book, you can maybe get some helper from an editor! Good Luck with your future story telling.

Bobby R. Dennis was born on Oct.2, 1960 during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. He has lived through the turbulent 60's, the free love era of the 70's. He witnessed some of the most traumatic events of the century. He is the son of a convicted drug king pen, who has served time in several maximum security prisons in the Florida D.O.C. It was there that he discovered his knack for writing the stories of the life he has lived. It was there while serving 25 years for armed robbery that he met Ausha Rogers and the two developed a bond that was a strong as brothers. While both were on disciplinary confinement a shake down took place and a novel was taken from Bobby because the policy of the D.O.C was that the only reading material allowed in D.C was religious material. Bobby's anger coupled with boredom gave him the will to try and write a novel of his own. It was there that the draft for what would later be called The Redemption was written. Ausha was the first one to read the book and from his response the dream of Hoodwrittens as well as The Kane family saga was born. Ausha was released first and Hoodwrittens became more than a dream it became a reality. We intend to introduce to the world what we label as " Fac-tion, a combination of fact and fiction!

Against Her Will I just discovered this draft...It was meant to be a followup to a review of this book which ran last October. That's about the time I started having major problems with my computer. No matter what trauma we face, there are some basic changes that result to a greater or lesser extend to those who are ultimately diagnosed with Clinical Depression. I thought this book helped show the trauma, if any of you are interested... So I decided to go ahead and publish what I discovered in research...

The subject matter, about a rape victim and coming to terms with this terrible act, needs to be handled with dignity and care. No woman, unless it happens to them, can know how harrowing and horrific this is. I can only imagine, myself.

The book is full of emotion, such pain, love, greed, obsession, death, hate, as it delves into the life of one young woman. I hope you like it.

As a neurotransmitter, serotonin helps to relay messages from one area of the brain to another. Because of the widespread distribution of its cells, it is believed to influence a variety of psychological and other body functions. Of the approximately 40 million brain cells, most are influenced either directly or indirectly by serotonin. This includes brain cells related to mood, sexual desire and function, appetite, sleep, memory and learning, temperature regulation, and some social behavior.

There are many researchers who believe that an imbalance in serotonin levels may influence mood in a way that leads to depression. Possible problems include low brain cell production of serotonin, a lack of receptor sites able to receive the serotonin that is made, inability of serotonin to reach the receptor sites, or a shortage in tryptophan, the chemical from which serotonin is made. If any of these biochemical glitches occur, researchers believe it can lead to depression, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, panic, and even excess anger.

Although it is widely believed that a serotonin deficiency plays a role in depression, there is no way to measure its levels in the living brain. Therefore, there have not been any studies proving that brain levels of this or any neurotransmitter are in short supply when depression or any mental illness develops. Blood levels of serotonin are measurable -- and have been shown to be lower in people who suffer from depression – but researchers don't know if blood levels reflect the brain's level of serotonin.

Also, researchers don't know whether the dip in serotonin causes the depression, or the depression causes serotonin levels to drop.

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, major depressive disorder is characterized by a combination of symptoms that interfere with a person's ability to work, sleep, study, eat, and enjoy once-pleasurable activities.

There are times you may feel sad, lonely, or hopeless for a few days. But major depression -- clinical depression -- lasts longer and is disabling. It can prevent you from functioning normally. An episode of clinical depression may occur only once in a person's lifetime. More often, though, it recurs throughout a person's life.

In addition, with major depression, one of the symptoms must be either depressed mood or loss of interest. The symptoms should be present daily or for most of the day or nearly daily for at least two weeks. Also, the depressive symptoms must cause clinically significant distress or impairment in functioning. The symptoms cannot be due to the direct effects of a substance -- drug abuse, medications -- or a medical condition, such as hypothyroidism, nor occur within two months of the loss of a loved one.

This article is not meant to provide any type of medical guidance or advice. It is merely helping to show that whether it is a soldier who is traumatically affected on the fields of wars...
or a village of women who have been repeatedly raped by one or multiple criminals...
or whether it is a single rape by a single individual...
or any other type of trauma such as my becoming so mentally, physically and emotional burned out that I could no longer function... while people may look like they are the same individuals, they are not!

For myself, I have been on medication close to 10 years. I have tried to get off of it many times, until I finally accepted that I have been permanently changed by trauma, in my case, a buildup of countless problems...
In rape victims, the trauma experienced can be as individual or unique as the number of women involved (or men)

Many have been emotionally, mentally and physically changed through some change that occurs in the complicated processes shown in the last chart...even though we have no idea what or how it occurred...it has... and I know
I am changed in some way because of it...for the rest of my life...
Those who are raped, I imagine, also feel damaged and sometimes cannot face it...
Get help if you face some trauma which has affected your thinking in some harmful way!
There are ways to help you through what you sometimes experience--Don't Give Up!

Readers: In the past I've not included in my blog the reviews I do for products other than books. I admit I'm doing this now because of my losing time dealing with medical and dental issues that have arisen and because of my ongoing computer decisions... I took a computer back yesterday (another article of that soon). Getting ready to go out allowed me to try the product shown above...

I had used a brush in the past but somehow lost it along the way when I moved to the cabin... So I was pleased to take and try this product. I like loose powder and have been using Merle Norman's pearled powder for years.

I moved the brush across my powder and knocked off what I thought would be the extra powder... Not so...This super softy grabs so much powder that when I started to brush it across my face, the powder swirled into the air, on my clothes--in other words--everywhere... I mean you could "see" it flying and falling in the air!

Now I know that I can practice until I figured out just how much I dared to touch my powder, but, really, did I really want to take time practicing how to brush? After that little coughing spell, I decided to read the package... No, I never read instructions unless I have to...A product should either be self-explanatory or you can plainly see you need help to know what to do...I hadn't thought I would need instructions for a brush...

When I read the first line, I clearly saw my mistake...this product was apparently for "girls"...??? So we have an age-limit on makeup brushes? Here's what it told me:

A girl's got to stay on top of her game to live life in the fast lane. Make some noise, break some rules. But stay street smart with UBU Cosmetic Tools...

Now, I have to ask... Is there any reason a cosmetics company would be saying to girls--obviously not to women, right?-- that they should use this product AND ".break some rules." Now the pic above could be me, so you know that I've been using makeup for many years. Not once have I been told to break some rules if I wanted to be street smart...And yes I do know what that means, don't you? Geesh, I can't even feel comfortable passing this brush onto my young great-niece!

Next, I was told that I have "no time for cuddles on the couch with this brush...Super Softy is one dynamite of a lady! Use her extra large and extra soft head to apply...

Please, please tell me why I would need to have a cosmetic tool talk to me about cuddling...and more...

No wonder our world has become more and more sexually oriented! Everywhere we turn, sex is being used to sell...

Who is Fielding Gray? Should You Take Seemingly Medical Advice from Somebody Using Pseudonym?

Pseudonym--a name that someone (such as a writer) uses instead of his or her real name. Full Definition of PSEUDONYM. : a fictitious name; especially : pen name.

I really don't mind when a writer chooses to use a pen name, especially for fiction--I've used one myself.

When I saw this book on the wall at my Reviewers Roundup group, I immediately went out to download the offered free copy [As an aside, if you're looking for one place where you can go and daily check out what's happening with books, do come to check us out!]

It's a fairly short book and so I read it quickly. It was important to me because I am now taking medication for back pain which started sometime during the winter and continued to increase until I was having spasms... I have another exam with a specialist this week...

Nothing that I could see or pinpoint was wrong, but there didn't seem to be any medical terms or backup information on what was being said. In fact, I noticed right away that there were links to other sites with little more than a recommendation. I could not tell that the writer had read and absorbed the information and was providing his or her own evaluation...

In fact, not only did I not find any credentials for this individual who was telling me he could cure back pain, I could not find a person by the name Fielding Gray.

In fact, the only place I could find this name was of a character in books written by a UK author who is now deceased...

There is no reference in the book that the write is using a pen name. There is one reference to see a doctor for some of the issues???

Now when I started to read this, I immediately thought it was what you would call a self-help book. I've thought about writing one regarding my Job Burnout, entitled Emotional Damages. But in doing that, I would qualify myself as having gone through the experience and ensure that readers knew that I had no academic credentials upon which I was writing the book.

So, is this book worthless...No, as I read it sounded like someone who hade done research on back pain and it seemed to be fairly comprehensive for an overview... But there is really nothing in the book upon which you could ensure your back pain will be soon gone...

One suggestion given was that those who sleep on their sides should put a pillow between knees... Here's what I found from the Huntington Post when I was searching for pics...


Position:The Foetus position, otherwise known as the Thinker position, is characterized by sleeping on one's side, in a curled up position. Arms are curled on top of the pillow, or occasionally one arm will be under the pillow. The hands can be in a variety of positions, but Foetus positions are always characterized by at least one hand resting near the chin. What if that author had advised putting pillows under your feet to make their height equal to your hips... Would you have done this? What if this made your back pain worse??? At the end of this book, Fielding Gray asks for a review on Amazon....Note it does not say a review anywhere you'll find them, perhaps they aren't anywhere else?...
